Lingaraj Vihar library & Information Centre was established on the auspicious Republic Day of 2012 in the central open space of Lingaraj Vihar Housing complex at Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar. The Bhoomi puja of the new building was held on the 2nd October 2013 on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti and inaugurated in July 2015. Construction of the ground floor of the new building was completed with the help of MP-LAD fund. Library was registered under Society Registration Act (No XXI of 1860) in 2021 vide Regd no 2719-66/20-21. Library conducts Annual General Body meetings for the approval of the income and expenditure of the society and EB Election every year along-with publication of Bi-Annual reports highlighting the activities of L & IC. Library is having 253 life members till date.

The library is a repository of printed books in Odiya, English and Hindi. The library combines the twin features of a public library and Information centre, catering to the needs of residents in and around Lingaraj Vihar/Pokhariput, students, youths, housewives and senior citizens. It is now going to develop in accordance with the suggested recommendation of development conclave. Initiatives are taken for developing L & IC into a digital library equipped with e-mail/Web facilities with Internet connectivity. Talks, Lectures and Seminars are being organised to create socio-cultural and research-based awareness of knowledge among citizens. Reading Room is open for all. Many newspapers, magazines in English and Odiya are available in this Reading Room. Library and Information Centre conducts debate competition every year among school teenagers to generate leadership quality among them and Drawing & Art competition of school children of the locality to boost their creativity. The Bhoomi Puja of construction of 1st Floor of the library was held on 28-05-2025.

 

CURRENT ACTIVITIES OF THE LIBRARY

• The privilege of Library infrastructure is created by the Library and Information centre and is open to residents from 6pm to 8 pm everyday with facilities of newspaper and book reading.

• Regular talks are arranged every month by inviting eminent doctors, writers, scientist, spiritual leaders, administrators, politicians, singers and academicians of Odisha. Talks on current issues, healthy and happy living, health care, spiritual discourses, cybercrime, scientific developments, space and IT developments and environmental issues are delivered for the knowledge enhancement of residents.

• Debate and Drawing competition are conducted every year for school children of the locality to boost their personality, leadership and creativity.

• Health camps and Vital screening is done for well-being and good of residents at every regular interval.

• Bhagwat Gita classes are conducted every fortnight by lady members of the library.

• Library observes national and state level functions like Independence Day, Republic day and Utkal Divas every year.
